[7] Rondell (Roundabout)
- The colourful seats in the roundabout are called “Enzis” and are the result of a student idea competition (website in German).
- Every two years or so, the Roundabout is filled with sand and transformed into a beach (instgram account in German).
- Once a year, during the summer semester, various higher education groups and initiatives set up stalls at the Roundabout.
Roundabout
The Roundabout is the centre of campus and is both a recognizable feature in pictures and a popular meeting place for students and staff. It becomes particularly popular when students in the field of Sport, Business & Law turn the Roundabout into a beach with a beer garden, beach volleyball tournaments and public screenings of sports events. Once a year in the summer semester, student initiatives and groups present themselves at the Roundabout rendezvous event.
Art: Space Curve
Norbert Kricke comes from the field of drawing and later as a sculptor, translating drawings into three-dimensional space. This sculpture is the artist’s last work and a symbol of the free unfolding of the mind.

Art: Balkenhol Figures
A total of four bronze figures face each other in the square, with two more figures further out on the grounds. They are placed on columns, and the artist ironically alludes to earlier depictions of famous people placed on columns. Here, Stephan Balkenhol uses random contemporaries.

Exhibition: Displaced Thinking
As a symbolic representation of the many displaced legal scholars, the steles represent five jurists who were expelled from Germany between 1933 and 1945, had to flee from deportations, or lived in hiding.

Campus life
Campus life is more than just studying. Many student initiatives offer opportunities to try things out and pursue personal interests in your free time. Students run their own media, including a university radio station, a university newspaper (Falter) and even a campus TV station. Students are involved in university politics, and cultural activities range from concerts by the university orchestra, the big band and various choirs to theatre performances. Students are involved in international and social initiatives, sustainability and environmental conservation groups, as well as subject-specific groups.
Interdisciplinarity
Interdisciplinary cooperation has a long tradition at the University of Bayreuth. The short distances on campus make it easy. We are constantly breaking new ground and providing answers to scientific, technical and social questions. Degree programmes such as Sport, Business & Law, Health Economics, Business Administration & Engineering, Economathematics and Philosophy & Economics already hint at the interdisciplinary approach in their names. But many other degree programmes also allow students to look beyond their own discipline through electives or minors.
