  • The first lecture at the University of Bayreuth was held in the building of Earth Sciences I. Research and teaching activities began on 3 November 1975 with 24 professors, one female professor and 627 students.

  • In 1977 the Glashaus was used as a cafeteria. The Glashaus still operates as a café (website in German) at certain times. Why not drop in for a coffee?

  • The single-storey barracks between the Glashaus and the next stop on the tour were donated to the University by local textile mills in 1977 and were originally intended as temporary accommodations while other buildings were being constructed. In the meantime, however, these temporary buildings have now become part of the campus and are still in use. They house the Language Centre, for example.

Glashaus
The Glashaus is a student-run cultural centre on campus. Whether it’s concerts of various genres, salsa nights, jam sessions, readings, pub quizzes, films or karaoke – the Glashaus has become an integral part of the cultural life of the University and the city of Bayreuth. The Glashaus team always welcomes new members and supporters.

RadBox
The RadBox is the bicycle self-help workshop on campus. If something is wrong with your bike, you can come here during opening hours and have your bike repaired or tuned up with the help of experienced hobbyists. The necessary tools are also provided.

Sustainability
We were one of the first universities in Bavaria to adopt a binding sustainability strategy. Our goal? To conserve resources, increase energy efficiency and promote sustainability awareness among all campus members. Green Campus (GreenCampus) is the University of Bayreuth’s own sustainability office, where students and faculty work together. This is where all sustainability activities come together, where ideas are developed and projects are designed and implemented. The RadBox is one of these projects. It is now even possible to study sustainability in a supplementary programme, and many regular degree programmes also include sustainability.
